On the night of May 12, 2023, a shooting incident in Brookfield, Vermont, resulted in the death of 27-year-old Juan Sierra from Springfield, Massachusetts.

Vermont State Police responded to a reported shooting at a residence and found Sierra deceased outside the home with a gunshot wound to the torso. Another man, Miguel Fuentes, also from Springfield, had also been shot but managed to drive away from the scene before being assisted by a passerby who called 911.
