In the summer of 2020, a young Hispanic man named Manee M. Castillo, age 20, lost his life in a fatal shooting in Providence, Rhode Island. The incident, which marked the city's fifth homicide of the year, unfolded on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Castillo was shot on Herschel Street following what police described as an argument involving several people.
After being shot, Castillo was privately transported to Rhode Island Hospital by his family members.
Despite their efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooting prompted an investigation by the Providence police, who soon identified a suspect in the case.
Less than a week after the shooting, on Monday, August 3, 2020, the suspect, 19-year-old Dontay McNeill of Woonsocket, turned himself in to the authorities. A warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with Castillo's death. McNeill was subsequently arraigned on charges of murder and weapons violations and was ordered held without bail.
