On May 27, 2024, 21-year-old Zachary Ryan Frankus was tragically killed in a triple homicide at his residence in Centerville, South Dakota. The incident also claimed the lives of his brother, 26-year-old Paul Wyland Frankus, and 35-year-old Timothy E. Richmond. The suspect, 64-year-old Jay Edward Ostrem—a former mayor and ex-sheriff's investigator of Centerville—was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
