On January 29, 1958, Merle Delore Collison, a 34-year-old White male, was shot and killed along U.S. Highway 87 near Douglas, Wyoming, after 19-year-old Charles Starkweather targeted his parked Buick to swap vehicles while fleeing a multi-state murder spree. 34-year-old Merle Delore Collison was a traveling shoe salesman based in Great Falls, Montana.
