In the evening hours of July 3, 2024, in Dickinson, North Dakota, the life of 59-year-old Christopher Volney Ische, a Black male, was tragically cut short. Responding to a report of a shooting shortly after 7 p.m. on Enterprise Avenue, Dickinson police officers discovered Ische suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Present at the scene of the incident was
67-year-old Jeffrey Powell. Powell, who police say was an acquaintance of Ische, remained at the location and engaged with the responding officers. Following initial conversations with both Powell and other witnesses to the event, authorities took him into custody.
Jeffrey Powell was subsequently arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was booked into jail and has since been formally charged with murder. Powell made his first court appearance on the morning of Friday, July 5, 2024, to face the charges brought against him. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly encounter is ongoing.
