In the spring of 2009, a life was cut short in a hail of gunfire in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of April 7th, 26-year-old Aaron Cortez Freeman, a male, was involved in a gunfight in the Druid Hills neighborhood. The violent altercation took place on the 1600 block of 21st Place North, ending with Freeman being fatally shot.
During the exchange of fire, another individual was injured.
This person, considered a suspect in the incident, was transported to UAB Hospital for medical treatment. The events of that Tuesday marked another homicide for the city of Birmingham in what would be a violent year.
Freeman himself was no stranger to the justice system. In 2001, he had been convicted for the murder of Heman Daniels III. After serving a five-year prison sentence, he was released in 2006. His own life would end violently just three years later. He is survived by his mother, Mona Lynn Freeman, his father, Bryant Perry, two sisters, and a brother.
