On April 24, 2009, Police Officer William Dexter Hammond, aged 38, from Headland, Alabama, lost his life in the line of duty. Officer Hammond was responding to an officer down call involving a deputy from the Henry County Sheriff's Office. The situation escalated into a standoff, during which a suspect, identified as Davis, was involved.
