On June 2, 2009, 26-year-old Officer Brandon Nykori Sigler of the Mobile Police Department in Alabama was fatally shot while investigating a disturbance at the Tyler Ridge Apartments on Thomas Road. Although off duty, Officer Sigler was serving as a courtesy officer for the complex when he responded to a disorderly incident in the parking lot. During this intervention, he was shot and subsequently transported to Providence Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
