In the pre-dawn hours of a Sunday morning, a family gathering at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Alabama, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 23-year-old Dominick Harris. On February 16, 2014, the young man was fatally shot, leaving a family and community in mourning. The male victim's life was cut short after a dispute at the party escalated into a physical confrontation.
The evening had started as a family party, but a disagreement spiraled out of
control, leading to a physical altercation involving Harris and several other individuals. This initial conflict moved from inside the event to the parking lot, where the struggle intensified. It was there, in the midst of the ongoing fight, that a single gunshot rang out, striking Harris in the abdomen.
Mobile Police responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 1:30 a.m. Upon arriving at the Martin Luther King Avenue campus, they found Harris suffering from the gunshot wound. He was rushed to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, but the injury proved to be fatal, and he died from his injuries.
