On August 2, 2014, in Birmingham, Alabama, 20-year-old Charles David Thomas was fatally shot following an argument that escalated into gunfire. The incident occurred on the 5100 block of Cherry Street in the Booker Heights neighborhood. Reports indicate that Thomas had been in a dispute with Tykee Smith's mother, with whom he had fathered two children. The confrontation led to an exchange of gunfire, resulting in Thomas's death.
