In the early morning hours of March 24, 2015, a dispute over money tragically cut short the life of 33-year-old Jodi Deann Fallowfield, a White/Caucasian mother from Columbiana, Alabama. Fallowfield, a female with a nine-year-old son, had traveled to Adamsville with her boyfriend to collect a significant debt of $10,000 from a man they knew, 34-year-old Russell Lee Williamson.
The meeting was arranged to take place near Village Creek, along Shady Grove Road, a location that would soon become a crime scene.
As Fallowfield sat in the driver's seat of her vehicle, the situation escalated with devastating speed. Williamson approached the car and opened fire, striking her. In the chaos that ensued, Fallowfield's boyfriend, who had been in the passenger seat, managed to escape into the nearby woods to hide. After Williamson fled the scene, the boyfriend returned to the vehicle and desperately tried to get Fallowfield to a hospital. Tragically, her injuries were too severe, and she succumbed to the gunshot wounds while on the way.
The investigation into Jodi Fallowfield's death moved swiftly, and later that same morning, authorities located and arrested Russell Lee Williamson at his residence. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with capital murder and attempted murder, facing the possibility of life in prison. He was held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail as the legal proceedings began. The investigation revealed that all individuals involved had been acquainted with each other for several years prior to the fatal encounter.
In February of 2018, nearly three years after the shooting, the case against Russell Lee Williamson came to a resolution. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of manslaughter and attempted murder. Following his plea, a judge sentenced him to serve 20 years in prison for his role in the death of Jodi Deann Fallowfield.
