In the early morning hours of May 8, 2008, a grim discovery was made on a Washington, D.C. highway. At approximately 12:25 a.m., police were dispatched to southbound I-295, just south of the Pennsylvania Avenue exit, following reports of a shooting. Inside a vehicle, authorities found 26-year-old Mansoor Farooq Awan, a male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt arrival of medical assistance, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them at the scene.
