In the early morning hours of May 8, 2008, a grim discovery was made on a Washington, D.C. highway. At approximately 12:25 a.m., police were dispatched to southbound I-295, just south of the Pennsylvania Avenue exit, following reports of a shooting. Inside a vehicle, authorities found 26-year-old Mansoor Farooq Awan, a male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt arrival of medical assistance, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them at the scene.
The death of the young man, who was also known as Soor Awan, was quickly ruled a homicide, launching an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch. Detectives began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting on the interstate.
The circumstances surrounding why Awan was targeted and who was responsible remained elusive, leaving a painful void for his family and community.
