On the night of February 25, 2016, the quiet of Thomas Drive in the Oakman area of Walker County, Alabama, was broken by a domestic fight that spiraled into gunfire. Irvin DeWayne Mayes, a 47-year-old White man, was shot at his home around 8:30 p.m., and sheriff’s officials said he died from the gunshot wound.
