On April 25, 2017, 49-year-old James M. Jeffrey of Robertsdale, Alabama, died by suicide, broadcasting the act live on Facebook. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office reported that Jeffrey, who had recently experienced a breakup, ceased communication with his girlfriend, prompting her to contact authorities. While deputies were en route to his residence, they received reports of the live-streamed suicide. Upon arrival, they found Jeffrey had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
