On October 2, 1987, Deputy Sheriff Howard Edward Dutton, aged 59, of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office in Alabama, was fatally shot while assisting the Robertsdale Police Department with a suicide call. The incident occurred behind a store on Chicago Street in Robertsdale, where the suspect was seated behind an abandoned building armed with a shotgun.
