In June of 2017, the community of Mobile, Alabama, was unsettled by the discovery of a woman's body near an abandoned home. The deceased was identified as 37-year-old Eppie Farris. The circumstances of her death immediately launched a homicide investigation as authorities began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to this tragic outcome.

The investigation into Farris's death gained significant momentum in September 2017. Following a standoff with law enforcement, a man named Richard Jones was taken into custody. His arrest was not only in connection with the death of Farris but also for another homicide that had occurred in July of that year, the shooting death of Christopher Coleman. The arrest brought a sense of cautious relief to a community that had been on edge, as they now had a suspect in two separate murder cases.
Richard Jones faced legal proceedings for both murders. In October 2020, a jury acquitted him of the murder of Christopher Coleman. However, the legal battle for Eppie Farris continued. In February 2022, a jury found Richard Jones guilty of her murder. Two months later, in April 2022, he was sentenced to life in prison, bringing a conclusion to the nearly five-year-long pursuit of justice for Eppie Farris.
