In Mobile, Alabama, on the evening of April 27, 2015, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, ending the life of 32-year-old Nikia Lavada Fair. The female victim was fatally shot while her four-year-old son was in the car with her. The events unfolded on Pollard Lane following a confrontation with her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Michael Dewayne Jackson.
Prior to the shooting, Fair’s vehicle reportedly struck another woman and then Jackson’s parked car.
In response, Jackson fired multiple shots into Fair's vehicle, with one of the bullets striking and killing her. Her young son, who was present in the car during the incident, was not physically harmed.
Following the shooting, Michael Dewayne Jackson was arrested and faced charges of murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. In November 2016, his case went to trial, where his own son, the sole eyewitness to the crime, testified against him. The jury found Jackson guilty of the murder of Nikia Fair.
For the murder conviction, Michael Dewayne Jackson was sentenced to life in prison. He received an additional 20-year sentence for the charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals later upheld these convictions, solidifying the legal conclusion to this tragic case.
