On July 24, 2017, 22-year-old Marsha Jasmine Westbrook of Mobile, Alabama, was fatally shot at a Chevron gas station near Interstate 65 Exit 219 in Jemison. She was traveling with 30-year-old Khadija Egella Montgomery from Prichard, Alabama. During their stop, Montgomery exited the vehicle, approached the passenger side where Westbrook was seated, and allegedly shot her. Westbrook was found deceased inside the vehicle upon the arrival of Jemison police.
