In the late summer of 2017, the life of Kevin Charles Jones, a 42-year-old White male from Boaz, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Monday, September 25, 2017, a verbal confrontation at a residence on Sunset Trail took a fatal turn. During the argument, Jones was shot. He was rushed to a Birmingham hospital for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries hours later on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a person of
interest. On the same day that Jones passed away, authorities arrested 19-year-old Ty Jordan Kirkland, also of Boaz. Following his arrest, Kirkland was charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Kevin Charles Jones. He was subsequently booked into the Etowah County jail and held on a $100,000 cash bond. The case involved a collaborative effort from several law enforcement agencies, including the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Boaz Police Department, and the State Bureau of Investigation, among others.
