On February 18, 2020, 30-year-old Colton Craig McKinney was fatally shot in the parking lot of Family Security Credit Union in Boaz, Alabama. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. when McKinney was confronted by his ex-wife and her brother, 26-year-old Jossie Cheyenne Bowen, regarding a joint bank account that McKinney and his ex-wife still shared. During the confrontation, Bowen shot McKinney, who was subsequently placed into an ambulance but died before he could be taken to a hospital.
