On February 26, 2018, in Montgomery, Alabama, 38-year-old Benjamin Young was fatally shot in the 3100 block of Crawford Street. The incident occurred as Young was preparing to take his ex-girlfriend's children to school. As he sat in his car with one of the children, then four years old, Charlie Gardner, the ex-girlfriend's former partner, approached the driver's side door and opened fire, striking Young five times. The child, who was the sole eyewitness, was physically unharmed.
