On July 27, 2018, in Prattville, Alabama, 39-year-old Chaka Shawnte Houser was fatally shot by her ex-husband, DeRico Tierre Houser. The incident occurred around 6 p.m., prompting authorities to issue an alert for DeRico's arrest. The following morning, he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, indicating a murder-suicide. DeRico, a military veteran with training and experience, was reported to have been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
