In the winter of 2018, a shooting in Decatur, Alabama, led to the death of 35-year-old Anthony Lewis. On the evening of December 21st, Morgan County 911 received a report of a shooting near the Parkway Place Apartments. At approximately the same time, Decatur Police officers were called to the intersection of Central Parkway and Beltline Road SW for a man who was unconscious in his vehicle.
That man was identified as Anthony Lewis, and it was discovered that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.
Emergency medical attention was quickly rendered, and Lewis was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital for emergency surgery. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Investigators with the Decatur Police Department began to piece together the events of that evening, and a suspect was soon identified in the fatal shooting.
Authorities named Lashawn Kentrell Caudle as the individual they were seeking in connection with Lewis's death. Police indicated that the two men were acquaintances and that the shooting was not a random act of violence. On December 27th, six days after the shooting, Caudle turned himself in to authorities at the Morgan County Jail. Following his surrender, Lashawn Kentrell Caudle was charged with Capital Murder and was held in the Morgan County Jail without bond.
