In the winter of 2019, the life of 42-year-old Orangeal White was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Montgomery, Alabama. On the evening of February 2nd, White was inside a vehicle with her husband and daughter when the car was riddled with bullets. Both she and her daughter sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, White succumbed to her wounds, marking the fifth homicide in the city that year. Her husband, who was also in the vehicle, was fortunate to escape without injury.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence led authorities to a suspect, Elijah Reese. Evidence gathered from Reese's social media accounts and cell phone data played a crucial role in connecting him to the crime. Investigators were able to build a case against him not only for the death of Orangeal White but also for the murder of another individual, Gregory Cole, which had occurred just days earlier on January 25, 2019.
In August of 2023, Elijah Reese was brought to trial and ultimately convicted for the murders of both Orangeal White and Gregory Cole. Following the guilty verdict, the Montgomery County District Attorney's office announced their intention to seek a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Reese was scheduled for sentencing on September 7, 2023.
