In the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 13, 2010, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Northeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. In the 1200 block of W Street, NE, a man named Larry Hutchins was shot. The incident occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m., and by the time authorities and emergency services arrived, there was little that could be done. Hutchins succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and tragic loss.
