In December of 2019, in Mobile, Alabama, the life of 21-year-old Tracie Dennis was tragically cut short. Dennis, a male, was reported missing by his family on December 16th. He was last seen leaving a laundromat on Airport Boulevard that morning. The search for Dennis led investigators to a home on Marcus Drive, where he was believed to have gone to collect payment for labor work he had performed for two men. Neighbors reported hearing two gunshots and a scream coming from the residence on the night Dennis disappeared.
The investigation quickly escalated to a homicide after police discovered a body, believed to be Dennis, buried in the backyard of the Marcus Drive home. It was later determined that he had been shot to death. The two men Dennis had gone to see, David Manuel Cordero Hernandez, 32, and Marcos Javier Morales Oslan, 21, had fled to Jacksonville, Florida. They were apprehended there just days after Dennis was reported missing and were subsequently charged with his murder.
Following their extradition back to Mobile, the two suspects faced the judicial system. Marcos Oslan eventually pleaded guilty to intentional murder in August 2022 and received a 30-year prison sentence. David Cordero Hernandez was also convicted of murder in October 2022. However, in a turn of events, a judge granted Hernandez a new trial in July 2023, citing the absence of several witnesses during the initial proceedings. As of late 2025, legal proceedings for Hernandez were still ongoing, with a judge rejecting a bid to have the charges dismissed and setting a new trial date. The brutal nature of the crime was revealed during court proceedings, with testimony indicating Dennis had been beaten, stabbed, and shot over a dispute concerning a few hundred dollars.
