In the fading light of a December evening in Jackson, Alabama, the life of a promising young man, Daniel Lamar Merit, was tragically cut short. A 20-year-old Black male, Merit was known for his infectious smile and his athletic prowess, having been a multi-sport athlete at Northview High School in Century, Florida, from which he had graduated in 2019. He was a resident of Century but was in Jackson with his college roommate at the time of his death on December 4, 2020.
