In the early morning hours of January 28, 2021, Thearthor Dixon, a 72-year-old male log truck driver, was found deceased near his truck at a gravel pit in Jackson, Alabama. An investigation revealed he had been shot multiple times in what authorities believe was a robbery attempt. A worker at a nearby gravel pit discovered Mr. Dixon's body and immediately contacted emergency services.
Police officials indicated that it appeared he had been specifically targeted.
The investigation led authorities to two suspects, 22-year-old Hikeem Edmond and 20-year-old Kylyn Taylor. The day after the incident, on January 29, 2021, both men were apprehended on unrelated charges and held at the Montgomery County Detention Center. Subsequently, capital murder warrants were issued for Edmond and Taylor in connection with Dixon's death. Law enforcement confirmed they had collected physical evidence that linked the suspects to the crime scene.
Following their arrests, the case against Hikeem Edmond and Kylyn Taylor proceeded through the legal system. In a preliminary hearing, a Clarke County District Judge found sufficient evidence to send the capital murder charges against both men to a grand jury for possible indictment. Later, a Clarke County jury convicted Hikeem Lamont Edmond on two counts of capital murder. In October 2025, a judge sentenced Edmond to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in the shooting death of Thearthor Dixon. Court records also indicated that a David Demetrius Taylor was scheduled to stand trial for his alleged involvement in the murder.
