In the late hours of a Saturday night in Troy, Alabama, the community was shaken by an act of violence that claimed the life of Anthony Carl Hodges, a 52-year-old male. On August 14, 2021, at approximately 11:44 p.m., Troy Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Hubbard Street following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Hodges deceased at the scene, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

Hodges swiftly led to the identification of a suspect. Jerrald Carmichael Theodias Sankey, a 32-year-old from Montgomery, was identified as the individual allegedly responsible for the shooting. Sankey was subsequently located and arrested without incident. He was charged with murder and transported to the Pike County Jail, where he was held on a $250,000 bond.
Authorities later clarified that this tragic event was isolated. Just minutes after the incident on Hubbard Street, at 11:55 p.m., another shooting occurred in the 100 block of West Fairview Street, resulting in one fatality and one injury. However, investigators found no evidence to suggest a connection between the two shootings. The Troy Police Department, along with several other agencies, including the Pike County District Attorney's Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, were involved in the investigation.
