On a Sunday evening in Oneonta, Alabama, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, ending the life of 53-year-old Sharon Dianne Teal Askew, a white female. The date was November 21, 2021. Following an exchange of angry text messages with his wife, Bryan Craig Fox went to their family residence on Moorer Lane. Inside the home, he shot Askew in the head. Blount County deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 6 p.m.
and found Askew on the living room floor with a single gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
When law enforcement arrived, they found 52-year-old Bryan Craig Fox inside the residence. He was ordered outside and detained without incident. Fox was subsequently arrested and booked into the Blount County Jail on a murder charge and held without bond. During the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, Fox claimed that he had acted in self-defense.
A Blount County jury, however, rejected his claim of self-defense. On May 21, 2024, Bryan Craig Fox was convicted of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. For these crimes, he received a sentence of life in prison. In an effort to overturn the conviction, the case was appealed. On June 20, 2025, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the convictions, ensuring that the life sentence would remain in place.
