On March 5, 2022, 51-year-old David Guess of Trinity, Alabama, visited the residence of 26-year-old Tyler Ray Tippett on County Road 294 in Hillsboro. An argument erupted over catalytic converters, involving Tippett; 44-year-old Wendell Junior Proctor of Hillsboro; 43-year-old Charles Allen Keel of Trinity; and Keel's 17-year-old son, Devon. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Guess was beaten. As he attempted to flee, Charles Keel shot him.
