On March 19, 2022, Jason Gray, a 45-year-old resident of Moulton, Alabama, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Quality Inn located at 2120 Jameson Drive SW in Decatur. Decatur Police responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m. and discovered Gray deceased from gunshot wounds. Another individual, Brad Schulte, 39, of Leighton, was found with gunshot injuries and was transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
