In the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, September 7, 2013, a sense of unease settled over the 2900 block of 2nd Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. At approximately 3:46 a.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the neighborhood. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man lying unconscious, the victim of a brutal shooting.
