In late May 2022, 14-year-old Ciara Jackson traveled from her home in Hockley, Texas, to Mobile, Alabama, to spend the summer with her grandmother. On the night of May 31, while riding in a car with friends on Michael Donald Avenue, the vehicle was fired upon by individuals who mistakenly believed it belonged to someone else. Ciara was struck by a bullet that pierced her chest, leading to her death at the scene.
