On February 22, 2023, in Daphne, Alabama, 72-year-old Barbara Smith was tragically killed in a quadruple homicide at her residence on Melanie Loop. The suspect, her 21-year-old grandson, Jared Tarant Smith-Bracy, allegedly shot Barbara, along with her 27-year-old grandson, Jeremy Smith, and 71-year-old family friend, Sheila Glover, in the backyard of the home. Inside the house, Smith-Bracy is accused of using a pickaxe to fatally bludgeon his 80-year-old grandfather, Leonard Smith.
