In the quiet community of Daphne, Alabama, a devastating scene unfolded in the early morning hours, leaving a family of four, including 11-year-old Kinsley Smith, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. The discovery was made after a concerned family member, worried about potential domestic violence or suicide, contacted the authorities. Deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the family's home on Sable Court. Upon their arrival at approximately 3:20 a.m.
and after receiving no answer, they entered the residence to find a tragedy had occurred.
Inside the home, law enforcement found the bodies of Kinsley, her 15-year-old brother Khristian Smith, and their 41-year-old mother, Larrica Gaines Smith. The authorities identified the shooter as 44-year-old Kenneth O'Neil Smith Jr., the husband and father, who was also found deceased at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators believe Kenneth Smith shot and killed his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself. A handgun was recovered at the scene and is believed to be the weapon used in the killings.
