In the early morning hours of April 17, 2023, the life of 22-year-old Brandon Lamar Urquhart, a Black male, was cut short in a fatal shooting in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident unfolded at an apartment complex located in the 600 block of Earline Circle, plunging the community into sorrow and prompting a homicide investigation.
Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot at approximately 2:15 a.m.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Urquhart inside one of the apartments, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to UAB Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Urquhart ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations by the Birmingham Police Department suggest that the shooting occurred outside the apartment where Urquhart was found. It is believed that an unknown assailant shot him and then fled the scene on foot, disappearing into the early morning darkness. At the time, authorities had not identified any suspects, and no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. The case remained an active and ongoing homicide investigation as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to Urquhart's untimely death.
