On July 24, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m., 16-year-old DeMylah Delyric Nixon-Johnson was fatally shot on South Nashville Avenue in Sheffield, Alabama. Responding officers discovered her lying in the grass with a gunshot wound between her shoulder blades. She was transported to Helen Keller Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
