On February 19, 2015, in North Pole, Alaska, 34-year-old John Adam Chilcote was fatally shot in a residence he was visiting. The assailant, 43-year-old Matthew Burton Davis, forcibly entered the home and confronted Chilcote and a woman in a bedroom. Davis, armed with a 9 mm pistol, fired eleven shots at Chilcote, resulting in his death. During the attack, the woman managed to escape to her daughter's room, where they hid in a closet.
