On the night of May 25, 2015, 27-year-old Black/African American male Marquise Pope was shot inside a home on the 8300 block of Pokey Circle in south Anchorage. Police were called just before 11:25 p.m. and found the 27-year-old man dead from gunshot wounds. Neighbors later described hearing multiple shots, and officers encountered witnesses at the residence when they arrived near Lake Otis Parkway and 84th Avenue.
By the following day, authorities identified the victim as 27-year-old Marquise Pope and notified his family. Several people from the home were transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning. Investigators said the people involved knew one another; no charges had been filed at that time, and police believed they had contacted everyone involved, indicating they were not actively looking for additional suspects. The investigation remained ongoing.
