Black/African American male Treyndon Lewis, 42, was shot on the evening of October 11, 2024, in Anchorage's Mountain View neighborhood, near North Bunn Street and Thompson Avenue. Officers were dispatched at 6:16 p.m. and found the 42-year-old lying outside with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police closed the surrounding streets while crime scene technicians documented the scene and collected evidence, later confirming the victim's identity after notifying his family. Detectives said they had contacted everyone believed to be involved and did not see an ongoing threat to the public.
In the first days after the killing, investigators detained 33-year-old Paul Baldwin Jr. in connection with the case and arrested him on an unrelated warrant while they pursued additional charges. They also arrested 30-year-old Chontae Ivery, who was charged with evidence tampering tied to the aftermath of the shooting. According to a subsequent account drawn from a charging document, a witness saw the suspected shooter leave in a pickup. The driver initially claimed he had been forced to flee at gunpoint, but when confronted with inconsistencies, he admitted he had driven the suspect and Ivery away from the scene and that Ivery had asked him to destroy any evidence on the truck. Police seized the vehicle.
Months later, the case advanced: on January 14, 2025, a grand jury indicted Baldwin on first- and second-degree murder charges in the death of Treyndon Lewis. Reporting at the time reiterated the timeline of the shooting—Lewis found outside, alive but unresponsive, and later declared dead—and noted that Ivery's earlier arrest included counts of attempted evidence tampering and hindering prosecution, in addition to a violation of conditions in a prior case. Authorities continued to withhold details about what led up to the confrontation, but reiterated that, by the Sunday following the killing, they had spoken with all parties linked to the incident and were not seeking additional suspects.
