On June 7, 2015, 22-year-old Ketchikan resident Samson Mullenax died from a gunshot wound in what Alaska State Troopers described as an apparent accidental shooting. The incident occurred at a gravel pit off Brown Mountain Road, a location commonly used as a shooting range, where Mullenax was present with approximately six other individuals.
