A 32-year-old white female, Danielle Brooks, met her tragic end on December 24, 2016, in Anchorage, Alaska. Her life came to a sudden and violent close inside her own home in the Mountain View neighborhood, where she and her husband, 38-year-old Christopher Brooks, lived with her young son. The unthinkable unfolded on a quiet Christmas Eve, forever turning joy into grief.
That afternoon, police responded shortly before 4 p.m.
to a report of gunshots and discovered the lifeless body of Danielle, 32-year-old female, inside the apartment, and her husband slumped outside in a bloodstained snowbank. Their child was miraculously uninjured, but traumatized, later recounting to investigators in haunting words that “ninjas came to my home and killed my family.” The scene revealed that a home invasion, driven by planned robbery, had gone terribly wrong, with the couple caught between greed and violence.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities identified three suspects. Chief among them was 22-year-old Lamarkus Jayquann Mann, accused of being the shooter who fatally shot both Danielle and her husband during a struggle over a gun. He allegedly entered the home with two accomplices—Jaylyn Franklin, then around 20, and DeAnthony Malik Harris—each armed and intent on stealing drugs and money. Franklin and Harris were involved in the robbery plot, waiting in the living room with Danielle while Mann confronted Christopher in a bedroom. A scuffle ensued, and police say the gun discharged, wounding Harris, before Mann turned the weapon on Danielle, killing her because she had witnessed the violence. The three then fled the scene in a vehicle. Franklin was arrested and charged with multiple counts including second-degree murder, robbery, burglary, and tampering with evidence; Harris was apprehended at a hospital with a leg wound after being dropped off; Mann was eventually located and taken into custody as a dangerous fugitive.
Over the ensuing years, the justice system moved to hold those responsible to account. A fourth man, Savon Wiley, was found to have orchestrated the robbery by luring Christopher Brooks under false pretenses just before the violence erupted. In 2020, Lamarkus Mann was sentenced to 109 years in prison, and Savon Wiley received a sentence totaling 56 years of active incarceration plus probation. In 2024, DeAnthony Harris was sentenced to 80 years, with 20 suspended, for his role in the double homicide. Jaylyn Franklin, who had entered a plea agreement, was handed a sentence of 100 years with 20 suspended earlier in 2019. The legal outcomes reflected the gravity of the loss—of two lives and of a life full of promise cut short.
