White / Caucasian male Steven Cook, age 31, died by gunshot on September 12, 2017 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was co-owner of The Bullion Brothers, a precious metals / coin business located on Spenard Road. On that morning, dispatch received a report of a shooting at the business; when Anchorage Police arrived they found multiple victims shot. Steven Cook was one of three men found dead inside the store; another man survived initially but later succumbed.
According to preliminary investigation, the suspect initiated a confrontation with the owner for reasons not fully understood, pulled out a firearm, and shot Cook multiple times. Then the suspect proceeded to shoot two other men at the scene before fleeing. Shortly after, the suspect called the Anchorage Police Department wanting to turn himself in. Tip information led officers to his location, and he was arrested in the area of Dimond Boulevard and Minnesota Drive.
The person arrested and later convicted for the killings was Anthony Michael Pisano. He faced charges including three counts of first-degree murder for the slayings of Steven Cook, Kenneth Hartman and Daniel McCreadie as well as a count of assault for a surviving eyewitness, Michael Dupree. After an initial trial that ended in a mistrial in 2020, Pisano was retried; in November 2023 a jury found him guilty on all counts.
In May 2024, the court delivered a sentence of 300 years for Pisano, the maximum allowable under Alaska law. The sentencing included three 99-year terms for each murder, plus an additional term for the assault on Michael Dupree. Pisano will serve without bail pending sentencing, having been found not entitled to release.
