On May 23, 2018, 25-year-old Jennifer Kirk was found deceased at a property in Kotzebue, Alaska, owned by then-Mayor Clement Richards Sr. Her body was discovered at the foot of a bed, with a rifle nearby, strangulation marks on her neck, and a bullet wound beneath her chin. The Kotzebue Police Department swiftly concluded the case as a suicide, closing the investigation the following day, prior to receiving the final autopsy report.
