On November 12, 2018, 27-year-old David Anthony "Tony" Welch was fatally shot in the upper body in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express in Anchorage, Alaska. Patrol officers responded to the scene at 4:27 p.m., and Welch was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
