On April 26, 2021, Joseph George, Alaskan Native male, age 18, set out near the Nightmute airport with two other young people for an evening of goose hunting in Nightmute, Alaska. As a goose passed overhead, a minor companion fired and, at close range, the shot struck Joseph George, male, age 18, in the head. Village health aides responded and he was declared deceased at the scene. Troopers were notified that evening, and next of kin were informed.
