On April 26, 2021, in Nightmute, Alaska, 18-year-old Joseph George tragically lost his life during a goose hunting trip with two companions. While the group was hunting a few hundred feet from the Nightmute airport, a minor in the party fired at a passing goose, inadvertently striking George in the head at close range. Village health aides responded promptly to the scene and, after consulting with the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, confirmed George's death.
