Alden Gerald Walker, Sr., a 71-year-old Alaskan Native man, died on May 25, 2021 in Holy Cross, Alaska. He was shot on a boat by his son, 34-year-old Devyn Walker. After the shooting, Devyn fled to a residence in Holy Cross, where he barricaded himself, leading to a nearly 24-hour standoff with the Alaska State Troopers.
The standoff involved the Bethel troopers, Alaska State Troopers' Crisis Negotiation Team, Special Emergency Reaction Team, and the Alaska Bureau of Investigations.
Despite repeated attempts to convince Devyn to surrender, he refused. He fired a gun in the direction of law enforcement during the standoff, though no officers were injured.
On the evening of May 26, officers entered the residence. A trooper fired their service weapon, and Devyn Walker was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound. It has not been publicly confirmed whether his death resulted directly from the trooper's shot or other causes. The state medical examiner's office was tasked with determining the official cause of death.
Investigators treated Devyn as the suspect in his father's death. No charges were filed against him because he died during the standoff. The Alaska Bureau of Investigations handled the case, and findings are to be submitted to the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions.
