On February 19, 1997, Bethel Regional High School in Bethel, Alaska, became the site of a tragic event when 16-year-old student Evan Ramsey carried out a shooting that resulted in the deaths of Principal Ronald Dale "Ron" Edwards and 15-year-old student Josh Palacios. Armed with a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun, Ramsey entered the school and first shot Palacios in the abdomen; Palacios succumbed to his injuries after emergency surgery.
