On July 30, 2017, in Napaskiak, Alaska, 26-year-old off-duty Village Police Officer (VPO) Kyle Wassillie from Nunapitchuk was fatally shot. The incident occurred at a residence belonging to the family of 19-year-old Adam Williams. Both men had been consuming alcohol, and a confrontation ensued, leading to Wassillie's death.
